Certificate Program - SONET And Other Broadband Technologies

  Objective

To provide a practical overview of SONET/SDH and broadband technologies, as well as their applications, evolution, implementation, and regulatory status.

The rate of technological advance in microelectronics and fiber optic components has led to a revolution in communications network transmission systems. Advances in fiber optic system products have driven down the cost per circuit-mile to ever-lower rates. The key to this rapid cost reduction has been the world standardization of optical transmission systems, called the Synchronous Optical Network, or SONET in North America, and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, or SDH, in most other parts of the world.

This course helps students understand the key elements of SONET/SDH technology, its profitable applications, and its operations, administration, and maintenance features.

Understanding SONET and Other Broadband Technologies helps students see how today's use of SONET/SDH and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems offer tremendous bandwidth, and how SONET with Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) brings bandwidth directly to customer locations.

If you need to understand today's broadband marketplace, what technologies are available, and what's in store for tomorrow, this is a "must-attend" course.
