CELBAN PREPARATORY COURSE

The Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) is the first language assessment designed specifically for internationally educated nurses.

The CELBAN™ is quickly being accepted by nursing licensing bodies across Canada. The CELBAN™ has been endorsed by the licensing bodies of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses across Canada as an acceptable option to demonstrate the level of English language proficiency for licensure.

The CELBAN™ will evaluate the proficiency level in all four skill areas (speaking, listening, writing and reading).

COURSE OUTLINE

Reading

The student is trained to answer a variety of question types, including multiple choice, identifying information, identifying writer's views, matching information, sentence completion, fill-in-the-blank exercises/cloze exercises, and short answer questions. Text includes various formats such as charts, patient notes, manuals, and information texts related to health issues.

Listening

The student is trained to answer a variety of questions, viz. multiple choice, matching, , form/summary completion, sentence completion, in various settings including hospital, home, clinic, and medical office.

Writing

The student is trained for reports writing and completing forms.

Speaking

Handling Oral interviews and role plays are the focus of the training provided The student is trained to talk with normal levels of continuity, rate and effort and to link ideas and language together to form coherent, connected speech.
