Job Summary
- Perform the administrative tasks related to job search for students as assigned by the Career Services Manager at CIMT College.
- Reaching out to former placement and employer contacts, as well as seeking out new placement and employer partners, and actively researching potential job opportunities for CIMT College students.
Education
- A high school diploma is required
- A college diploma is preferred
- Experience working in human resources, or as a career coach, in job placement, or as a soft skills trainer is preferred
Experience /Skills
- Keyboarding skills 40wpm with attention to accuracy
- Have a proven track record in administration, multitasking and organization, and relationship building
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
- Excellent English skills both verbal and in writing
- Involvement working independently and in an administrative team
- Flexible - ability to adapt to changes
- Prospecting and closing skills
- Must be self-motivated and able to meet a predetermined quota of students being placed and/or hired
Computer Skills
- Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel and/or Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Gmail
- Experience with Microsoft Access or other CRM database knowledge
Relationships
- Works with: Campus Staff, third-party agents, funders, local businesses, and students
- Reports to Career Services Manager
- Supervises: None
- Outside Contacts: Hosts, employers, education funders, and employment services businesses
Working Conditions
- Flexible and available according to the campus schedule, including evenings and weekend shifts
- Career Services Advisors are provided with the necessary office equipment required to complete daily tasks
Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities Reflective but not all inclusive
- Coordinate placement for jobs and practicums
- Develop outreach strategies to effectively create and maintain relationships with prospective employers and funders throughout the community
- Develop and establish business contacts and network with potential employers to assist placements
- Arrange for employers to recruit graduating CIMT College students for volunteer, placement, and employment
- Provide assistance and information to job seeker students on all aspects of employment search and career planning
- Work with students to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
- Maintain a database of employers and placement agencies
- Collect labor market information for students regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information
- Help to coordinate job fairs and invite guest speakers to facilitate student placement
- Document student progress for records
- If the employee does well, the role may be expanded to include: Conducting Professional Skills classes, creating profiles of students, providing soft skills training and making them job ready. That role would require expertise in writing and editing winning résumés, formulating cover letters, offering career counselling coaching, monitoring and mentoring students, one-on-one sessions on portfolio development, career goals assessment, and social skills.
