NETWORK STUDENTS VISIT TO BELL LABS

Events

bell lab visitOn Thursday (March 31st, 2011) the Network Administration Diploma students had an opportunity to tour the Bell Labs Data Center in the Rogers Center in downtown Toronto courtesy of Bell Laboratorie`s IT Specialist.

The students heard first hand of the kind of time pressures that IT personnel in the field must sometimes face. The supervisor there had slept only two hours the night before in anticipation of a scheduled event at the Rogers Center the next day.

The systems, they had an opportunity to view, included the complex access management systems and a host of servers required to manage the over 20 entrances and exits of the arena. The complex maze of cables and wires can be a daunting sight for students who are new to the IT sector but a little experience in the field is all that is required to gain confidence. The students viewed the network attached storage (NAS) and storage attached network (SAN) systems as well as a variety of application servers and network equipment.

Participation was excellent among the students and it sparked renewed energy amongst the students in terms of their education.
