new comer information centreCanadian Institute of Management and Technology - CIMT College endeavored into bringing awareness about the Occupation Based Career Programs amongst the group of recent immigrants at Newcomer Information Centre under the belt of The Centre for Education and Training, on Jan 29th, 2013. Rashmi Gangwani, Program Manager at CIMT College presented an informative session on bridging the gaps – “The World is in Your Hands”, which highlighted numerous solutions to the most common problem that most of the immigrants face - career orientation. The speaker focused on the potential job opportunities in different sectors and suggested the participants with the appropriate pathways to take up career oriented skills for a successful start to their career in Canada.

The competitive and dynamic Canadian market poses a lot of threats for the new immigrants, hence this session aimed to help them overcome these hurdles by way of guiding them to choose a career path that increases their employability and also help them in the smooth transition during their settling phase in Canada.

The session concluded with an interactive session where the participants were given an opportunity to discuss their problems. Most questions were regarding the job opportunities and the potential employment areas in the current Canadian economy. Rashmi guided them to take informed decisions about their careers and shared her experiences, which not only benefitted in bridging the knowledge gap , but also helped the new immigrants in boosting their confidence to face the challenges.
